Our Assotiaton
Dr.
Alfons
Nowak,
now
a
retired
German
doctor
visited
Kakuma
for
the
first
time
in
2013.
His
friendship
with
a
Salesian
priest
brought
him
there.
ln
2014
together
with
his
friends
they
founded
the
Non
Profit
Association
‘Kakuma
Refugee
Help’
in order to be able to give more sustainable support.
About Children on the run
The
number
of
people
on
the
run
worldwide
now
is
the
highest
since
World
War
2.
Thousands
of
people
flee
from
their
home
countries
due
to
Violence,
Wars,
Civil
Wars,
Human rights abuses This has led unfortunately to a high percentage of unaccompanied minors in refugee camps.
Kakuma Refugee Camp / Don Bosco Kakuma Flüchtlingshilfe Ostafrika e.V.
Non-profit organization for refugee children in Kenya
Our Vision
We
enable
children
in
Refugee
Camps
to
get
additional
school
lessons.
They
learn
in
a
safe
and
trusting
environment.
We
want
to
help
them
to
be
able
to
build
up
a
livelihood
so
that
they
can
go
back
home
one
day
and
not
be
forced
to
run
away
again
because
of
economic
reasons.
We
want
to
teach
these
children
tolerance
with
reference
to
different
tribes,
nations and gender.
Our logo “Help for children”
Our
logo
is
a
symbol
for
our
commitment.
On
the
left
side
is
a
small
plant
which
grows
into
a
healthy
mature
plant
seen
on
the
right.
This
is
accomplished
through
your
help
which
is
symbolised
by
the
underline.
How is our help organised?
We
finance
education
for
children
in
the
Refugee
Camps
of
Kakuma
and
Kalobeyei
in
Kenya.
Our
partner
in
the
Camp
is
a
Catholic
Parish
Priest,
a
member
of
the
Salesian
Order
of
Don
Bosco.
His
name
is
Fr.
Jose
Padinjareparampil.
The
children
meet
in
the
afternoon
in
groups
of
about
100
in
the
so
called
Savio
Club.
They
are
taught
by
teachers
who
are
themselves
refugees.
Petronilla
Ng’endo
Kinjua
is
our
Kenyan
supervisor. She educates the teachers using the Kenyan Curriculum.
Our
first
goal
is
help
these
children
refugees.
When
our
donations
allow
us
we
support
also
an
education
project
for
streetkids
in
Nairobi
called
'Bosco Boys' organised by the Salesians.
Our Finance
We
help
using
the
donations
that
we
get.
The
other
costs,
which
are
few,
we
pay
are
covered
through
the
membership
fees.
The
German
Tax
authority
recognises
us
as
a
Non
Profit
Association.
All
our
members
do
their
work
voluntarily
and
are
not
paid
for
it.
Once
in
a
year
Dr.
Alfons
Nowak
visits
the
camp
and
audits
the
financial
accounts.
We pay for
…
the
wages
of
the
teachers
and
the
supervisor
and
for
teaching
materials.
We
also
pay
for
a
small
meal
for
the
children.
Since
2020
998
children
are
educated
every
day
in
six
groups
in
Kakuma
and
in
two groups in Kalobeyei.
We say Thank You
…
to
all
our
members
and
to
all
our
donors
on
behalf
of
the
children
who
profit
so
much
from
this
extra
education.
Each
of
them
belongs
to
the
best
ones
in
his
class.
All
of
them
look
smart
and are known to behave in politely.
“Never
have
l
found
anyone
facing
his
death
who
complained
that
he
had done too much of good in his lifetime.”
Don Bosco (1815 -1888) Italian priest and social worker
